5-Axis Machining is a CNC lathe machining method.

When describing the motion of the CNC lathe, according to ISO requirements, a right-handed rectangular coordinate system is selected, in which the ordinate of the parallel plane and the spindle bearing is the z-axis, and the rotation coordinates around the x, y, and z-axes are A, B, and C, respectively.

All the fitness movements of the ordinate can be completed through the operation console or through the movement of the CNC tool, but the orientation is determined by the relative movement direction of the CNC tool. Five-axis linkage refers to the linear tool radius compensation movement of any five coordinates in x, y, z, A, B, and C.

In other words, the five-axis refers to the three moving axes of x, y, and z, and any two rotating axes. Compared with common three-axis (x, y, z) machining, five-axis machining means that when machining parts with very complex geometry, CNC inserts must be machined for precise positioning and connection on five playables.

Five-axis CNC machine tools use five-axis CNC lathes or five-axis machining management centers. Five-axis machining is common in the aerospace industry, processing human body parts with arbitrary slopes, turbine engine parts and centrifugal impellers.

The five-axis CNC lathe can process different sides of the product workpiece without changing the position of the workpiece, which can further improve the processing efficiency of prismatic parts.

Five-axis CNC lathes and CNC machine tools without RTCP must use the CAM programming and post-processing process to plan the tool path in advance. For the same part, if the CNC lathe is changed, or the CNC tool is changed, the CAM programming and post-processing must be used. The processing process can only be planned in advance for the five axes.

Of course, it is beyond reproach for others to insist on calling themselves five-axis linkage, but this (fake) five-axis is not that (true) five-axis.

This is a simple name, not a standard name. Generally speaking, five-axis CNC lathes are divided into two types: one is five-axis linkage, and all five axes can be linked at the same time, the other is five-axis CNC lathes, and the other is five-axis CNC lathes. One is the five-axis CNC lathe, that is, five-axis linkage, that is, five-axis linkage.

Compared with the processing of three-axis CNC machine tools, from the perspective of processing technology and programming, five-axis CNC machine tools have the following advantages in the processing of complex slopes:

 (1) Improve processing quality and improve efficiency.

(2) Expand the category of processing technology.

(3) Realize the new direction of compound development trend.
